What is a kokeshi?

Kokeshi (こけし) are traditional dolls from Northen Japan. Made of wood by skilled line of artisans appointed by kiji-shi since over 150 years ago, the dolls are intricately painted and covered with lacquer.

Today, CasaBento is pleased and honoured to uncover this ancient Japanese art to you through this Kokeshi Mamy Bento box, a box that is directly inspired by kokeshi dolls.

This bento is made up of two rounded halfs.

The lower container (the face of the kokeshi) is made entirely of ceramic and can be used for your rice, pasta, or vegetables.

The kokeshi's hat, made of wood, may in turn be used as a bowl for your favourite soup (miso soup for instance).
