The flower holder, spiky frog or kenzan (剣山, an expression meaning « mountain sword » in Japanese) refers to a small lead slab with spikes used when practising ikebana.

Put the kenzan at the bottom of a vase, instead of floral foam for flowers with a woody stem or with a very heavy head and nail the stem on the base.

ikebana (生け花) is the Japanese tradition of flower arranging.
